The kitchen is back to semi-normal after John’s two week project to install the ultimate range hood. For two weeks, the kitchen has been in various states of disrepair, but last week was pure hell. There were wood chips, plaster dust, insulation, and pieces of asphalt roofing on the kitchen countertops and floors. It only got cleaned-up when I could devote time to it, and HEAVEN FORBID if I moved anything or needed to use the kitchen to prepare a meal.

During this ordeal, there was much snipping and snarling – not coming from the dogs – but from the humans. I did my best to get the hell out of the way, plus I had all kinds of work deadlines so I wasn’t around much anyway.

In retrospect, it’s a wonder the dogs survived. I think they spent 18 hours of every day in their doggie condo or loose in the kitchen, licking up debris on the kitchen floor. The other 6 hours were spent sleeping with me and trying to rid themselves of the junk they ate while I wasn’t at home. The end result was a periodically puking Laddie, diarrhea from Macalester T, and Sydney pooping out asphalt shingles.

The good news is that every dog is recovering, including Sydney purging the last of the asphalt from her bowels yesterday. No vets visits were needed.

The bad news is I’m exhausted from work and cleaning up after dogs and humans. At least the dogs say thank you.

The next project for John will be helping a plumber do the rough-in on the upstairs bathroom-to-be, then to do the finishing work. I’m hoping to do the tiling and painting with the girls, and keep John from turning every square inch of the bathroom into shelving. Right now, our bedroom is full of my craft supplies that were in the to-be bathroom. At least it’s all in neatly stacked and/or in boxes. The dogs’ bowels are safe… for now.
